Welcome to Helpman Institute school of economics, an institute dedicated to provide rigorous training in modern economic theories and techniques. Our school is committed to fostering a deep understanding of economic principles, rigorous research, and practical applications that shape the global economy. Our courses are designed to equip students with the ability to address local, state, national and global challenges in public policy.
The School of Economics was founded in 2022 as a branch of the Helpman Development Institute. Its primary focus is on promoting public policy and addressing policy challenges. A crucial aspect of this is the ability to analyze and anticipate the impact of public policy, as well as evaluate interventions, in order to make well-informed and evidence-based policy decisions and recommendations.
The school offers certificate courses in Public Policy and Risk Management, which integrates various elements such as research, theory, and practice. The courses are designed to equip participants with analytical frameworks that facilitate their understanding of the policy process. Spanning a year, it provides students with both quantitative and qualitative tools and techniques required to conduct public policy research based on evidence. Furthermore, the course engages students with real-world and global case studies supervised by experienced HDI faculty, enabling them to develop effective policy recommendations.
Since its inception, one of HDI’s core objectives is strengthening training and capacity-building for public policy research, analysis, and engagement. This is to contribute to building a strong foundation in microeconomic theory and micro econometrics and also introduce students to applied microeconomics fields including industrial organization, labor, health, population, public and environmental economics. The certificate program is building its participants with analytical frameworks for thinking about the public policy process and analyzing policy success and failure. The program will also widen their analytical insight into the public policy sector to engage more efficiently with future analysis.
This course is a one-year program that is divided into three categories.
The aim of this course is to assist individuals in assessing different types of risks and establishing risk limits. It will delve into explaining the fundamental factors that drive each type of risk and outline the necessary steps for selecting probability distributions to estimate risk. Moreover, the program incorporates practical elements such as case studies, research projects, and group discussions, enabling students to apply the acquired concepts in real-world scenarios. Additionally, industry experts will deliver guest lectures, offering students valuable insights from the field and fostering networking opportunities.
This program consists of two semesters: the first semester and the second semester, spanning a total duration of one year.
